Toyota Starlet goes 600.000 km / 372822miles

Found this Youtube video from Iraklis Pouaro of a Toyota Starlet Ep91 turning 600.000 km on its odometer, This trustworthy car just will run and run.

The description of the video says:
"My toyota starlet ep 91 has now 600.000 km without having a problem at all of its life"
Many miles on a Toyota Starlet Ep91. One of the most reliable cars ever made?
600.000 km, that's equal to 372822 miles
Many miles on a Toyota Starlet Ep91. One of the most reliable cars ever made? (overall that it)
Reliability Rating = HIGH!

Does your Toyota Starlet have high mileage? Please comment if you think its been reliable. :-)

Mine sure has.

  1. My girlfriend's 1997 EP91 has done 348,000km, only stopped once due to her running out of fuel, no fault of the car! Also the heater core failed dumping coolant into the passenger footwell. Otherwise 100% reliable with just routine servicing.
She got it 2.5 years ago with about 271,000km. We just replaced the shock absorbers, and installed lowered springs, car feels a lot nicer now and doesn't look 4WD height!

  3. I have a 97 ep91 Sportif - I bought it with 90,000 miles on it with no service history, I have owned it for 2 years and put another 20,000miles on the clock, I have serviced it myself and can see that the cambelt looks ok and has made in Germany on it so assume that it is on its 2nd belt. I plan to have the belt changed after the winter however they are pretty much non-interference engines, so as long as your revs are not high when it snaps the engine will be fine, also the the water pump is not driven by the belt which makes replacing the belt easier and cheaper. Starlets are truly amazing cars the build quality is brilliant and they drive like a luxury car, the stock suspension is soft but it is not a racing car. the 4EFE engine really is a brilliant reliable engine, mine has no indication of oil in the coolant so can assume it has never been overheated and has no damage to the head gasket, the gears do have some slightly stiff syncros so a slight not really grind but feel of gears when changing into 3rd at certain revs, I work around this by keeping the trans fluid clean and being very gentle with changes. I expect that this car will do at least 200,000 miles and I hope to see even more from it, it will be a real shame when/if it ever goes. Also just for info I have owned many cars from performance cars to trucks etc. so its not like I have just fallen in love with my first car, I got the car as a cheap run around and now expect that I will only ever drive Toyotas for the rest of my days, they may not be too exiting to drive but the build quality and reliability is like no other (Hondas come close, their engines are amazing however they seem to have so oddly defective small things like sensors and almost always air conditioning units which are cheap and made in Vietnam I believe)

  4. 97 Starlet, 380,000 km on odo, motor never opened. No smoke, still get 100km/6.0L fuel. Only issue, needs high octane now due to knock. Possible carbon deposits. Solution to get me back onto using 91 octane??
